“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners I wish someone told me. All of us Who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste.

But there is this gap.

For the first couple of years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you.

A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have.

We all go through this.

And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know it’s normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only be going through a volume of work that you will close that gap. And your work will be as good as your ambitions and I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met.

It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”

2011 started out with a bang. The gig at Opus went down good. People seem to enjoy it. When will there be some pictures/videos? Soon, I took a bunch of video with my phone and no one knows when the photos taken from that night will show up. Hopefully sooner than later.

One of my more popular posts is when the iPad was first announce I compared Lemur to the iPad. In the end I felt like Lemur would have to change somehow or face death and as I’m sure you have heard already the Lemur is discontinued. I’m not surprised mainly because of their price.

This one came to a surprise to me though. I heard rumours on the internet about it’s soon to be discontinued. I did buy turntables a long time ago, I ended up going with some digital/analog hybrid Numark one instead of 1200s. Don’t ask me why because I have no idea. I’ve moved far away from dealing with turntables but I thought the Technics 1200s would always be around. Not like I care though. I’m sure if there is enough of a demand for them and they’ll do a lame limited collector edition runs.

After posting two posts on Lemur I thought it would be right to make a third ending it with the death of Lemur with a bonus of the death of 1200s!

So much for that nanoPAD. I had it sitting in the box for about a year now and thought I’ll try to use that XY pad on it but really I was just wasting time like I am right now doing this. USB plug in on the nanoPAD was loose so I decided to open it to attempted to fix which in the process everything inside basically falls apart. I guess there is a reason why it’s so cheap.

Edit If anyone one want the Korg nanoPAD Ableton Live code for $50 off if you purchase, just either leave a comment or contact me. First come, first serve situation.

Would you stand in line for this? I wouldn’t. Where does an artist go from here? I know I should be keen to keep on making better art but maybe all of this networking business that I feel like I have to do is ultimately stopping my creativity. I remember a time where I could sit down and not worry to much and just let the process happen. I feel like I’m close to getting back there but I’m not quite there. You put in so much with little return. Other than putting up sites and networking them with this site and with each other how do you let people know you exist? Do I want everyone to know I exist? It’s a really odd situation I find myself thinking back and forth. Oh this track/print is good I should not share it just in case for something and that something I have no idea.

I have been watching Moby interviews and music videos tonight and he brings up a point of being free of the idea of your art for something. It reminded me of something I saw on TV I think it was Bono from U2 saying along the lines ‘if you don’t want to have your art in other peoples hands why are you even an artist? isn’t that the whole point is to have your tunes be heard?’. And I completely agree with that, thats why let people listen to full tracks and download them.

I feel this way I think because I’m reaching a point of my little check list of things I know I should get done is getting near the end and I’m uncertain where things go from there. From what I have been listening to from Moby he doesn’t know and he still doesn’t everything has happen by surprise.
