I recently joined SoundCloud and I have a feeling that it’s more popular than MySpace these days. It seems to be a good option for artists mostly because of its unique music player with allowing comments right on the track. No control over how your page looks though which is bad or a good thing.

I’ve been wanting to post on this site about my update to this site but it’s taking way longer than I thought. What should I post on then? was the question for quite a while. Sometimes I find it hard to post here because I want the things I talk about to be something I care about. With that thought it reminded me that I should talk about some of my influences which is exactly what I’m about to share with you.

Naked Music is pretty much where I found my love for Deep House music. Their style, attitude and vibe is what I love and I recommend checking out all their releases. It’s the perfect music to chill out to but danceable if you crank it. Nobody does it quite like them.

If you have been paying a attention to what has been going on for the iPad since its release it has been quite interesting how fast things are being develop for it. It seems on many websites there is a new video posted about someone showcasing new software for the iPad.

In my last iPad related post I mentioned an App called TouchOSC and just like I thought it’s doing exactly what I thought but unfortunately it appears there isn’t a native iPad version yet. But from what I’ve seen it seems to be working quiet well on the iPad.

Another App that has caught my eye is called MIDIPad. I’m not sure if it is as customizable as TouchOSC or Jazzmutant Lemur but it looks promising.

I know I am barley scratching the surface on the topic and there are probably a lot more amazing Apps I don’t know about that are aspiring to do what the Jazzmutant Lemur does. We have to look what has Jazzmutant done since the introduction of Apple iPad. To be honest not too much other than the introduction of the software called ‘Mu’. What ‘Mu’ does is be Ableton Live controller for the Lemur.

If you watch all the videos you can tell that Mu for the Lemur is the most polished piece of software. It’s just a matter of time software for the iPad gets as good or better than Mu. So I still feel Jazzmutant will be forced into becoming a software company or at least provide a cheaper hardware model for their software.

Look at what other options you have with iPad over the Lemur with all these digital synthesizers, drum machine software, rebirth, to even DAWs a lot of cool things are happening and with PC Tablets on the way too, the options will become even greater. I think it’s safe to say I much rather just own all of them so I don’t have to choose.

Korg’s first new analog synthesizer in over 20 years and it’s awesome. Korg Monotron. With ribbon control, not over sized for no reason and under $100. Should be coming to North America later this year and I can see myself getting one of these. Check out this youtube video of this dude from Japan making a decent song with only using the Monotron.

Update/Edit: Some cool modded Monotrons!

I been thinking about this topic for a while now and how I feel about the situation of possible future of the internet with this plug-in and what would replace it.

I have been messing with Flash a bit here and there since version 4. I guess that is quite a long time and still not knowing much about it. I’ve always found it to be such a painful experience to work with, it’s like pulling teeth. When I have an idea I don’t want to deal with hours and hours of programming I just want it to do what I want it to do. But I’ve manage to learn the basics and for the most part I get Flash to do what I want it to do.

I’ve always have heard from people ‘Flash is the best thing ever man!’ or ‘I want to rape Flash so it’s broken forever’. And I have felt both of those arguments but with learning about the development of HTML5 I’m not sure how much Flash we’ll see in the future.

Everything Flash does right now is be a music player, video player, annoy the fuck out of you with ghey ads and stupid long loading over the top Flash web sites. What HTML5 does is remove the need of Flash to do the first two I’ve mention. That right there pretty much removes Flash from what you care about on the internet. I have a couple of places on my website where I use Flash and I’m looking forward to being able to remove it when all browsers support mp3 streaming with HTML5. (Has anyone else notice my music player cuts off songs before they are done?)

I don’t feel Flash is going to completely disappear from the internet, it’s going to not have such a strong market share. With Apple deciding to not support Flash for their iPhone/iPod/iPad products ultimately really hurts the future of Flash. As a web designer I know that I don’t like the idea of my web site not fully working the way I designed it if someone visits on one of those Apple products.

So taking my last point and an earlier point I made, (I’m not big into actionscript) the option of HTML5 with some Javascript doing what my Flash is doing is exciting to me. Only time will tell if everything I just said really becomes a reality, it relies on what the main browsers decide to support but it looks promising.

Soulfrost - You Were

I’m not back from my trip but I wanted to post something here since it’s been so long since the last time I did. Or at least thats how it feels. I believe it’s a good thing to unplug once in a while from technology and reset your mind.

I have redone/updated all the artwork for all my tracks that are up on my site. So now all my tracks have artwork with the mp3 so if you use a program like iTunes you’ll see it. I love the little details like this. Also the K-Os remix has been tweaked I think it’s better. Things might get tweaked with everything when I have access to proper monitors.

I have posted my latest track entitled ‘You Were’. Comments, thoughts about the track is always welcomed and looked forward to.
